I’m a backend-focused software developer working primarily with Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, Redis, and background job systems.
My work focuses on high-throughput data processing, reliability, and performance in mature applications, especially where database design, application architecture, and operational constraints meet.
The work I care about most is below the feature layer: understanding how production systems behave, finding the constraints that shape them, and improving their reliability, performance, and long-term health.
- Open Source Rails: Retired project — a curated list of open-source Rails applications
- osr-infra: Retired infrastructure repo with Ansible roles and playbooks for deploying Rails applications on DigitalOcean
I write at shey.ca about Rails, PostgreSQL, performance tuning, production systems, and software design.
